Jupiter and Uranus are both, in different ways, about "Openness"; Jupiter can be about 'vision' and 'farsightedness', and Uranus is about 'flashes of light'. Jupiter 'inspires'; Uranus 'explodes'. Taurus is 'organic bedrock'; its function is, not to 'stagnate', but to cradle and support life, even in its most vulnerable and delicate 'newness'.... nurturing, protecting, and preserving. The effect of this conjunction, at this place and time, is immense: Even that which we consider stable, immutably 'changeless', can change. This conjunction is about the sudden, the exciting, the utterly chaotic. It can affect social systems, religious systems, scientific theory, and collective and personal beliefs. It brings inspiration, creativity, originality, individuality, freedom and liberation. It pulverizes the arid, dusty husks of social consensus, and it rips through the rigid, fossilized layers of sociocultural norms. In short, everything changes.
This conjunction occurs about once every 14 years or so (when it last occurred, the world witnessed the Arab Spring). In Taurus, this conjunction is an even rarer event, last occurring in May 1941 when the Nazis invaded Russia, and before that, in 1858 when Darwin published his theory of evolution (interestingly, Darwin may not be the final word on this).
This conjunction can be a harbinger of radical, sudden shifts affecting economics, banks, and monetary systems; corporate bodies and governments; the environment, including food production and distribution. It is associated with earthquakes, weather extremes, and consequent changes in sea levels.
On a personal level, wherever the conjunction occurs in your astrological chart is where there can be both inevitable change and opportunity, if one is willing to stay Open, Centered, and Present. The symbol of Jupiter is the crescent of consciousness rising above and supported by the cross of matter. It is the Centaur with all four feet on the ground, lifting his face and bow towards the heavens; this is Faith springing from the foundation (the Earth) and soaring upward. In the symbol of Uranus, we see the two crescents of identity (individual and collective) joined by the cross of matter, resting on the ever-rising circle of spirit. Here, Spirit is sudden illumination; it comes from above, like lightening from the sky, striking and electrically charging the earth before returning back to its cosmic source, pulling us in tow with it.
Taurus is the earthiest of the Earth signs. It is the most fixed of the four fixed signs. It symbolizes one of the four mystical pillars of creation. The Jupiter-Uranus conjunction occurring in Taurus tells us that the freedom, liberation, and the real change it indicates is not just about us: it is about the Earth itself.
If we are willing to live from the Center of the chart, the "Stillpoint", these changes, both subtle and radical, still occur; but they don't overwhelm us and drown us in a tsunami; the waters of change are a strong current that can help us navigate to a new land, a new world. a new life.
Pax.
